Line and Wrinkle Treatments

Here at Cambuslang Dental Care we are delighted to offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments, including Line and Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments, Dermal Fillers and Lip Augmentation.

What are these treatments?

These treatments involve the use of products containing Botulinum Toxin which are injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that cause them. Results typically last 3 months.

There are three areas targeted by this treatment:

Frown lines
Forehead lines
Crow’s feet lines

The cost of treatment will depend on the number of areas treated and the
amount of product required to achieve the desired effect. As a guide:

1 area £100
2 areas £200
3 areas £250

Are there any side effects of treatment?
There are a few common side effects which are an expected outcome of the treatment, namely some mild bruising/tenderness around the injection sites, a headache which may last a few days, or temporary asymmetry.

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are clear, sterile gels which are injected under the skin to restore firmness and smoothness. The fillers we use are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in all living organisms therefore making them highly bio-compatible. They are non-permanent and gradually dissolve away over a period of time.

We currently use the Juvederm® range for all of our facial filler treatments. They have a good safety profile and give natural looking results. There are many types of filler available ranging from thin to thick, depending on the area being treated.

Why consider dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can plump up your skin, smooth wrinkles and fill out deep lines by replacing the collagen lost due to natural ageing or skin damage. Dermal fillers can help to “soften and smooth” facial indentations, add volume to your skin and help it regain its youthful look. They work by drawing in water therefore reducing the wrinkle being treated. They instantly plump and add volume to the areas from which it has been lost.
Where are the fillers injected?
There are various injection sites, depending on the desired result:

1. Naso-labial folds
The nasolabial fold begins at the corner of the nose and runs down to the  side of the corner of the mouth. The harshness of the nasolabial fold is one of the most common signs of ageing. When dermal fillers are placed into these folds, they hold water, hydrate and gives volume to the skin, correcting moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.

2. ‘Lipstick’ or ‘Smokers’ lines around the mouth
These lines occur as we grow older and the lip naturally starts to lose its volume, along with repetitive bunching of the tissue from muscular activity. These lines are often first noticed when lipstick starts to ‘bleed’ out of the lips into the vertical fine lines around the mouth. They are more prevalent on the upper lips. Dermal fillers are effective for treating these lines when injected in small amounts along the lines and lip border. Also worth considering is a bit of lip enhancement. Adding some bulk to the lips with dermal fillers will also  have a positive effect on these lines.

3. Marionette lines
Marionette lines are the long vertical lines that are found running downwards
from the corners of the mouth. Deep ones might give the face an expression
of being sad. They are an ideal target for dermal fillers.

4. Correction of a downturned mouth
As a result of muscle activity over the years, and loss of volume from the mouth corners we can develop a look that makes us look sad even when we’re not, which again is a tell-tale sign of ageing. It is possible to lift these corners with dermal filler by adding volume and anchoring the corners of the mouth higher up.

Our lips are one of the most vulnerable areas for ageing, losing volume and fullness over time, along with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The lips become less defined which is noticeable when ‘lipstick bleeding’ occurs. Dermal fillers can ease these signs of ageing.

Dermal fillers can balance out lips that are small or uneven, while keeping the shape natural. They can provide volume in the lips, but can also be used to add definition to the lips and smooth perioral lines.

If you suffer from chronically dry lips having an injection of dermal filler is like having a deep-hydrating treat, as it boosts your skin’s ability to hydrate itself by attracting moisture.

Finally, dermal fillers can simply enhance what nature has given us, for those wanting a powerful pout.

There are various injection sites, depending on the desired result :

Vermillion border (along the lip line) to enhance the outline  of the lips, and to plump out fine lines
Into the body of the lips to add volume and fullness
Into the philtrum lines to lift the upper lip and enhance the existing lines

Enhancing around the lips can be just as important as enhancing the lips themselves, so fillers can be used to lift the corners of the mouth by injecting filler around the oral commisures.

How long will the fillers last?
They can last between 6-12 months, but the duration differs from person to person and from one area to another.
How much will it cost?
The cost of treatment will depend on the type of filler required as well as the amount needed to achieve the desired effect. Therefore the cost can only be determined once you have had a full consultation to decide on these factors.

As a guide:
1mL of Juvederm 2/3/4 = £290
0.5mL of Juvederm Smile = £175
1mL of Juvederm Smile = £330
1mL of Juvederm Volbella/Volift = £360

If you require more than 1 syringe of filler for the desired effect, the cost of the second syringe is charged at 50% of the cost of the first.

What do i need to do prior to any facial aesthetic treatment?
Prior to receiving any treatment it is essential that you see the prescribing dentist for a full consultation, in order to discuss your desired outcome and how this can be achieved, the costs involved, as well as taking a full medical history to ensure that it is safe to proceed with the treatment. Your consent is needed to take photographs both before and after treatment to form part of your clinical records. On the day treatment you will be asked to keep your face free of all moisturisers and make.
What aftercare advice will i receive?
You will be given thorough aftercare advice on the day of your treatment, both verbally and in written format. You will receive a phone call from the dentist 24 hours after your treatment and will then be reviewed 2-3 weeks later to assess the final result of your treatment.
Who will be carrying out my treatment?
Your treatment will be carried out by Lynne Stephen, one of our associate dentists who qualified from Glasgow Dental School in 2007 and has been working in general practice ever since. She has completed training courses on the administration of cosmetic injectables with La Belle Forme Clinic in Glasgow and also under Dr Brian Franks, London.

Lynne has her own Facebook page which you can visit at

How do I arrange an appointment?
For further advice and information please speak to our reception staff to arrange a free consultation appointment with Lynne. We also have patient information leaflets available at reception on all of the above treatments.
“The key factor for me is trust. You are putting your face and your expectations in someone else’s hands. I could not have been happier with the whole process. The trust was immediately there with Lynne, she was so calming and confident. The consultation and the communication was excellent. I love my look and better still I love the confidence it gives me. I won’t be going anywhere else”
